Picnic in Zarzęcin
On 20 August 2011 (Saturday) in Zarzęcin, a "Picnic with EKOROB", i.e. an information and educational meeting, including social consultations for local community and tourists, was held. Picnic was organised by Regional Water Management Board and European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology under the auspices of UNESCO under LIFE+ EKOROB Project implementation within the area of Zarzęcin demo site.
The meeting was mainly organised for owners of recreational sites located along the reservoir shoreline as well as for owners of all year households in the village of Zarzęcin. Tourists resting in the reservoir area also took part in the meeting.
During the meeting, designs of ecotonic zones planned for construction in Zarzęcin demo site under LIFE+EKOROB Project were presented (a poster has been attached). A principle of ecotonic zone activity, including the use of denitrification wall and biogeochemical barrier was presented as a solution for sustainable prevention of pollution influx coming with groundwater in the estuary stretch of periodical stream.
Participants of the meeting receiving information materials concerning EKOROB Project, Water Framework Directive and had an opportunity of Nitrates Directive. Educational materials were developed for children.
A survey concerning the “Study of perception, satisfaction and attitude of the Sulejów Reservoir local community and tourists” was delivered among the Picnic’s participants.
The following topics were raised and requests submitted during the meeting:
- Need to connect Zarzęcin to the municipal sanitary sewage network;
- Need for educational campaign concerning risks to the reservoir water quality posed by illegal sewage discharges and use of leaking cesspits in private properties;
- Construction of a slip to launch boats within a road plot owned by Mniszków Municipality;
