Picnic with EKOROB under Patronage of the Mayor of Sulejow - 03.08.2013, Barkowice

An informational and educational meeting addressed to general public was held on 3 August 2013 in Barkowice under implementation of LIFE+ EKOROB LIFE08 ENV/PL/000519 Project. It took the form of a family picnic for residents and tourists of the Sulejow Reservoir areas.

The meeting was organised by the Regional Water Management Board in Warsaw and the European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of Sulejow, Mr. Stanisław Baryła. The meeting partners included the Voluntary Fire Brigade in Barkowice, Roza Wiatrow Restaurant and a volleyball school in Bak.

During this meeting, the work implemented under EKOROB LIFE08 ENV/PL/000519 Project within a demosite in Barkowice was presented, as well as information on health and environmental risks posed by pollution entering groundwater. The festival participants could obtain information material on EKOROB Project, Water Framework Directive and Nitrates Directive.

Ecological workshops which highlighted the issues of diffuse and point source pollution and reduction of nitrogen and phosphorus emissions in households were developed in cooperation with FERSO, the Foundation for Education and Development of Civil Society. These activities were also delivered in the form of a board game played in the fresh air.

A tournament of the Sulejow Mayor Cup beach volleyball tournament was the key attraction, and it was attended by Michał Bąkiewicz, a special guest.

Results of the beach tournament:

1st place - Anna Znyk-Kłaczek and Piotr Kłaczek from Lodz

2nd place - Katarzyna Partyka and Kamil Kubiś

3rd place - Maja Daleszczyk and Łukasz Jakubowski

4th place - Katarzyna Staśkowska and Bartosz Borkowski

Staged typical interventions that potentially could take place in Barkowice demonstration site were performed by voluntary fire fighters from Barkowice, and were another attraction. 

An integration bonfire with grilled sausages for the meeting participants crowned this event.
