Educational activities for the Nature Club members at the Elementary School in Smardzewice
On 25 June 2015, an educational activity was held for the nature club members at the Elementary School in Smardzewice, under LIFE+ EKOROB Project ‘Ecotones for reducing diffuse pollution’.
Radosław Gross (European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology PAS) and Sebastian Ratajski (Department of Applied Ecology, University of Lodz) delivered this activity in a field station in Tresta. During the first part, the pupils learnt how the Field Station operates, and received information on ichtiofauna and the scientific activity carried out at this facility.
During the second part, the pupils learnt how to collect samples and perform simple field tests. The collected samples of stagnant and flowing water, and of water from piezometers, were then measured and compared in terms of pH, nitrate and phosphate contents, using different methods, including a very interesting colometric method.
The pupils were very active, eagerly collected the samples and carried out the field tests, as well as demonstrated a high level of interest asking questions.
